Hello

My name is Amelia Coyne

she/her

For as long as I can remember I've navigated life with a camera always within reach, ready to capture all the random, genuine, corky, magical moments that makeup our daily lives. Over the past two decades, I've honed my skills and craft with numerous opportunities, experiences, and adventures, often pulling from the knowledge obtained with my BFA in Graphic Arts + Photography. I've continued to fuel my passion for documenting life, and have taken a big dive into the deep end of small business ownership.

American by birth. French, Scandinavian, German, & Neanderthal by blood.
Born on the West Coast, raised on the East Coast, England, West Africa, & South Eastern Asia, six time cross-country road warrior, with roots in Washington,  California, Montana, Colorado, Texas, Tennessee, South Carolina, West Virginia and Florida. Daughter, sister, wife, mother, and advocate for the arts, environment, Black Lives, Women's Rights, LGBTQ+, mental health and Autism awareness.

I TAKE PHOTOS- LOTS OF PHOTOS

One of the first photos I remember taking is by far one of my favorites and most valued, as it documents a time in the past no longer existing today.  Taken in 1994 with a disposable Kodak camera from the top of the Statue of Liberty (when the crown was still open for observation), the Twin Towers dominated the Manhattan skyline.

FUN FACTS ABOUT ME!

TECHNIQUE

With a natural eye for composition and the ability to recognize pattern, my technique has had a natural platform to develop on.
Lead by a fascination with the relationships between shapes, tones, and textures, each image is first developed in my mind utilizing the magic everyday moments and objects emit in the right lighting and from the right angle.

My body jumps to action, moving and contorting as needed to frame the perfect shot, spinning wheels to balance light, and clicking the shutter release to capture the precise moment the magic shines through.

TECHNOLOGY

My great-grandfather was a professional photographer and passed the passion onto my father. Once it was apparent the bug had bit me too, my father upgraded my disposables and passed on his first camera, a PENTAX K1000.
Over the years I've tired and test all the options and landed with Nikon.
I currently use a full frame mirrorless Nikon Z7ii and a Nikon D90 with Nikkor S 24-70mm, 50mm, 70-300, and Sigma WA 10-20mm. I am a trained graphic designer and have over 20 yrs experience in photo editing and design.

TRAVEL

With a name like Amelia and a spirit to match, my search for adventure and new places will never end. With a family spilt across the continental US, traveling has always been a part of my life. At 13, I became an ExPat living aboard in England with my family, returning to the States for university and to embark on my journey as an adult. Over the past 2 decades I have had the privilege to travel to some truly amazing locations.

TAKEOFF

Growing up with family roots on both coasts involved a lot of coast-to-coast domestic travel. Sometimes in planes, sometimes on trains, and sometimes in automobiles. I like to joke that I've spent half my life on an airplane and that I was a taxi cab driver in a past life due to the immense love for traveling and driving, instilled in me at such a young age (lap driving around the neighborhood and on the dirt road before the age of 10).  Named after Amelia Earhart (both grandfathers are pilots) flying with my family was a common past-time.

TULIPS

Tulips are my absolute favorite flower, and yearly trip for me to see them.Growing up in close proximity to the Skagit Valley Tulip fields made for an early introduction to this majestic flower. One of my favorite memories involves music and tulips, two of my favorite things.I was 13, on a family trip, sitting in the back seat of the family station wagon, listening to  'The Kids Aren't Alright' by The Offspring, as fields of color flashed buy in a blur as we neared our destination, Keukenhof (Tulip Garden) in Lisse, Netherlands.

TENURE

A lifetime relationship come full circle. As a teenager, I remember hitting up the Wenatchee REI outlet before heading north to my families property for snow time fun and games. As an adult, I worked for REI for over a decade, starting in Boulder, Co, with a quick transfer to Redmond, Wa before settling in with Store Design + Visual Merchandising at HQ in Kent, Wa. With deep roots in the PNW + Seattle area my love for all things outdoors inspire my life + work.

TALENT

Photography isn't the only medium I work in, though it's definitely my preferred. Ceramics, Painting, Weaving, Graphic Design + Print Making keep my hands creating when they're not holding a camera.

Music fuels my soul, and from a young age I have utilized song to express myself.
As a professionally trained vocalist, with past performances at Carnegie Hall and Walt Disney World, I find inspiration in music and will frequently hum or sing when I work.
One of my favorite songs to sing is 'What's Up" by 4 Non Blondes.

TACOCAT

I LOVE TACOS!
TACO TUESDAY is any day ending in 'y' in my world. Eating tacos twice a day, seven days a week, the dream is real. I run for Tacos. I run towards Tacos. My favorite tacos are Carnitas tacos, followed closely by chicken and veggie tacos. It's a 50/50 spilt on shell; Hard, soft, corn, flour, it all depends on how I feel in the moment. I also love Cats and have two fur babies I snuggle with while watching sci-fi or food shows (shoutout to Emerson and Arya) and well, TACOCAT spelled backwards is TACOCAT,
so ya.

TALL

Standing 5'10", I am commonly asked to retrieve something off the top shelve in the grocery store. In the late 80's my parents enrolled me in youth basketball at the local YMCA and with over a decade of training under my belt my game is solid.

Pioneering for equal representation and rights for Women in sports started at the age of 9 for me, having to fight for the right to play on the boys youth team in a small Texas town, as there weren't enough girls interested in playing youth basketball to form a team.
